Inside The Circle: Classic World Creations
CWC, also known as Classic World Creations, is a theatre entertainment group that comprises the niches of drama, dance and song. Boasting 40 members and several plays that have taken Babcock’s student community by storm, from ‘Pablo & Pablet’ to ‘Uncle Ben’s Wedding’, they are a society that cannot be overlooked.
We sat with the community’s Vice President - Umaru Vanessa - to get a deeper glimpse into the student group that keeps pumping out these timeless works of production.
Why CWC?
Aside from the lack of a dedicated theater arts department in Babcock, we are an association that gives creatives an opportunity to dream, express themselves, and connect with other like-minded individuals. We also serve as a source of entertainment, which is greatly needed in a busy and sometimes rigid environment like Babcock.
What's your vision for CWC?
Firstly, it remains an active part of the creative community, telling stories that linger in people's minds and inspire change and secondly, that every creative involved with CWC becomes a better version of themselves.
What should readers expect?
Something BIG! Something different, showcasing all that CWC has to offer – because we're not just ‘a drama group’.
Why should people buy into what CWC is trying to do?
Because we never disappoint!
The actors, teams, and executive members pour their hearts and souls into every production, making sacrifices to bring joy to the Babcock community.
Our last play - Pablo and Pablet, was a major hit despite being a challenging production financially and otherwise. We felt it was a success because we saw growth and received feedback that validated our efforts.
What do you believe is CWC's edge?
We strive for, and value quality over quantity. We handpick talents and make deliberate efforts to make them better, such that they leave the group much more refined and professional. We also engage in out-of-school programs that expose us to a larger group of creatives outside Babcock University.
How was the journey for CWC to reach this level?
We became what we are today because of the sacrifices and effort of many students, many who are now Alumni. We have persevered through restrictions, challenges, and constantly improved in how we delivered our plays and have always been very strategic about how we present ourselves to the Babcock community, ensuring that our ideas were fresh and eye-catching.
Final thoughts?
Because we always strive to be better, we have had to navigate times of financial constraints which have not been easy. Also, the problem of finding people that are genuinely passionate about the arts has also been a source of concern. But through it all, we have remained focused on our goal.
